Biography

Karen Fowlie is an award winning singer songwriter with deep musical roots in her community.  Fowlie and her band regularly ent audiences with her melodic songs about Western Canadian life and has opened shows for the bands Trooper and Streetheart.  "Sparkly Alt. Country" is how reporter Scott Neufeild (North Shore Outlook/North Shore News) categorized Fowlie’s sound.  Influenced by musical greats (Heart, Chantal Kreviatzuk, Sarah McLachlan, Emmy Lou Harris, Jann Arden, Joni Mitchell, Carrie Underwood and more) Fowlie writes songs people can easily relate to.

In recent history, Karen and her band released 5 singles of which 4 were her own compositions (“Home”, “Home” (Instrumental), “Cherry Blossoms”, “Slipstream”) and one cover song in Mandarin (“The Moon Represents My Heart”).  She performed the Chinese song on a Fairchild TV broadcast and then later appeared on Eileen Fong’s TV talk show to discuss how music can bring communities of people together.

Fowlie’s performance of “The Moon Represents My Heart” has now obtained over 33,000 views on YouTube.

“Home”, “Cherry Blossoms” and “Slipstream” have received notable community success.  “Home” (Instrumental) was used in a community project showing the changes of Horseshoe Bay in the last 100 years.

​

Karen also gives online performances.  A “Tribute to Canadian Women in Song” was held on International Women’s Day and over 100 people obtained tickets to the show.   The live album from the show is scheduled to drop later this year.
